How we hire
Welcome to the Alight hiring journey, where we believe in recruiting great people, not just filling open positions. We recognize the pitfalls of biases in traditional hiring processes and steer clear of gut-feeling decisions. Instead, we've meticulously crafted a hiring process that is both comprehensive and fair, ensuring that we attract and retain high-performing individuals who align with our vision.
Throughout the recruitment process, you'll meet different team members, ensuring you get a well-rounded perspective. We value transparency and make sure there's ample time for you to ask questions, fostering a two-way conversation. In between, you'll have the opportunity to connect with your future manager to delve deeper into role expectations, responsibilities, and team dynamics.
Recruitment process
Our standard recruitment process consists of the following steps, though the order of the interviews may vary
-
Discovery calls
The initial discovery call lasts around 30. The purpose of the call is to figure out if the role and Alight are a good match for you and your career aspirations. We have a casual conversation and encourage you to ask questions to get to know us better. In most recruitment processes, you’ll have two discovery calls: one with a recruiter and one with your future manager.
-
Structured interviews
Every candidate we hire has two structured interviews in which they meet different team members. In the structured interviews, you’ll have the opportunity to expand on your work-related experience by answering in-depth questions with specific examples from your working life. To prevent biases, we have the same set of questions regardless of position or seniority.
-
CV interview or case
Depending on the position, you might also have a CV interview or case as a part of the process. The case structure depends on the role you're interviewing for, while the CV interview is a standardized interview that covers your work history and professional accomplishments.
-
Team meet & role discussion
Since we believe in a holistic approach, we always carve out time for a thorough role discussion and/or coffee chat with the team. We want you to know us just as much as we want to know you. Your career is a significant part of your life, and we want to ensure that your time with us is not just professionally rewarding but personally fulfilling too.
-
References & background check
We want to make sure that we know each person that we bring into Alight. Therefore we always call at least two references (one manager and one colleague) to get a better picture of you and what you need to thrive.
A background check is one part of this and we do it for all candidates that are in the final stage of our process. You will receive an email from our supplier to fill in your information and will also have full transparency on when the check is finalized. -
Offer call & signed contract
Congratulations! If you make it through the process above, we'll extend a competitive job offer and welcome you to the company. You will have an offer call with your future manager and once you have agreed on the terms, the contract is signed digitally.
Recruitment process FAQ
-
At Alight, we embrace structured interviews as our primary assessment method for a compelling reason – their proven higher predictive validity. By investing time in designing interviews that facilitate fair comparisons among candidates, we aim to enhance the overall reliability and validity of our hiring process. Structured interviews, coupled with negative behavioral questioning, allow us to glean meaningful insights, steering away from the pitfalls associated with traditional methods like hypothetical questions and brainteasers, which often lead to unreliable data
-
Each interview is a standardized two-hour structured interview with 15 questions, where you will get to provide examples from previous work-related experiences. You will typically meet two team members every interview and we always leave 15 minutes for you to ask questions about us in the end. It's important for us that you get to know Alight too.
-
There's no particular preparation required for our structured interviews, however we will ask you about specific examples (e.g. specific situations or events) and your role in those. Therefore some introspection into past work experiences might be helpful. We will ask both about accomplishments, failures and challenges, so it can be good to reflect a bit on what impact different situations that you’ve faced had on you and the organization you worked in.
-
On average, the whole recruitment process might take two to six weeks

No, we're a remote-first company and have hired many great employees via a fully digital hiring process. But of course, we're always happy to have onsite interviews and show our office if you're close to Stockholm, Madrid, or any of our small office hubs!
