Senior Grid Engineer
Alight is a leading solar IPP (Independent Power Producer) on a mission to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable energy system by developing, owning, and operating solar & BESS assets that deliver long-term value for businesses and the planet.
As a Senior Grid Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that Alight’s solar, BESS, and energy hub projects are designed, connected, and operated in full compliance with grid requirements across the Nordics. You will act as the technical expert on grid integration, supporting projects ranging from utility-scale renewable assets to complex multi-asset energy hubs, private-wire networks, and powered land solutions for datacenters and large industrial customers.
You will work cross-functionally with development, engineering, construction, operations, revenue, and external stakeholders including TSOs, DSOs, EPCs, and OEMs to optimize technical performance, compliance, and long-term project value.
This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing renewable energy company at the forefront of integrating solar, BESS, and flexible energy infrastructure into the Nordic energy system.
Your impact
We are looking for a Senior Grid Engineer to lead and support grid integration activities for utility-scale solar, BESS, and energy hub projects across the Nordics. Define functional requirements for plant controllers, inverters, BESS, substations, SCADA, and protection systems
Engineering, procurement and construction support
Review and approve detailed grid and substation designs, including transformers, protection systems, cabling, SCADA, and metering
Technically evaluate suppliers and bidders from a grid compliance and curtailment perspective
Support technical negotiations and project execution during construction phases
Define and support FAT/SAT testing and grid compliance testing activities
Coordinate with TSOs, DSOs, EPCs, and construction teams during grid connection execution
Development and acquisition support
Assess and review grid connection solutions, studies, offers, and agreements from grid operators
Support development and revenue teams with innovative grid and storage integration opportunities
Evaluate technical risks and opportunities related to curtailment, compliance, reinforcement, and grid upgrades
Support technical due diligence for acquisitions and project development opportunities
Manage external consultants and technical studies related to grid integration and connection infrastructure
Operations and continuous improvement
Analyse curtailment and outage data to improve operational and pre-operational asset performance
Ensure continued grid code compliance throughout the asset lifecycle
Develop internal standards, best practices, and scalable technical solutions for grid connections
Provide guidance and training internally on grid infrastructure, substations, and AC/DC system design for solar and BESS projects
We’re looking for you
Proven experience in grid integration, grid connection engineering, or power systems engineering within renewable energy projects
Strong understanding of Nordic grid codes, TSO/DSO connection processes, and grid compliance requirements
Experience working with utility-scale solar, BESS, substations, or complex energy infrastructure projects
Knowledge of protection systems, SCADA, substations, power system studies, and plant control systems
Experience coordinating with TSOs, DSOs, EPCs, OEMs, and technical consultants
