Permitting Lead
Are you passionate about renewable energy, environmental planning, and shaping how solar parks come to life?
Fantastic – welcome to Alight! We’re a fast-growing scale-up with a bold purpose: to kick carbon off the grid by helping businesses save money with solar — and now also storage — from day one. As one of Europe’s leading solar IPPs, we’re growing fast across Sweden and Finland, and now we’re looking for a Permitting Lead to help guide our projects through the environmental and regulatory landscape.
That’s where you come in. As our new Permitting Lead, you’ll take full ownership of permitting for grid-connected solar and BESS parks in Sweden and Finland. You’ll be Alight’s internal expert on environmental regulation and planning processes, working cross-functionally with our site developers, legal team, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality permitting. Over time, you’ll also help build out a permitting team across markets.
Your impact
Permitting is a critical success factor in project development — and this role is at the center of it. You’ll define and continuously refine Alight’s permitting strategies, reduce reliance on external consultants, and drive forward collaboration between our teams in Sweden and Finland. By ensuring we submit high-quality, timely, and cost-effective applications, you’ll help accelerate the deployment of solar and storage across the Nordics.
KEY OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and continuously update Alight’s permitting strategy for Sweden and Finland
Lead and coordinate permit applications across the full project lifecycle, from site origination to FID
Support site developers with legal and strategic permitting guidance
Monitor market developments and regulatory changes in both countries, and ensure internal knowledge sharing
Reduce reliance on external consultants by writing or supporting the drafting of permit applications
Streamline collaboration with permitting consultants to improve quality and reduce cost
Represent Alight in consultations and stakeholder dialogues with municipalities, authorities, and landowners
Ensure permitting requirements are integrated into project planning and development across departments
Conduct quality reviews of environmental and permitting documentation (EIAs, cultural and nature studies, etc.)
Support the site origination and investment team by evaluating permitting conditions for potential projects
We’re looking for you
You’re a structured, proactive professional with deep knowledge of environmental permitting in Finland and a strong understanding of how infrastructure projects move through the regulatory system. You’re comfortable navigating legislation, writing applications, and speaking with stakeholders — from consultants to county officials — and you thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Must-haves
University degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Law, Engineering, or similar
Solid knowledge of Finnish environmental and land-use permitting legislation
Experience working with permitting processes for infrastructure or energy projects in Finland
Strong communication skills — written and verbal — in Finnish and English
Ability to coordinate, write, and review permitting documentation
Confidence in engaging with authorities, municipalities, and landowners
Nice-to-haves
Proficiency in Swedish
Experience with permitting processes in Sweden
Background in environmental law, consulting, or public sector/regulatory agencies
Technical understanding of solar PV and BESS systems

To ensure we attract the best talent out there, we don't limit ourselves to a specific location. Alighters are based across Europe and our diverse backgrounds and skills complement each other well.
We know that having a diverse team drives better collective decisions and superior business performance. Today our gender split is 44/56, with 15 nationalities and employees in 6 countries.

-
As an Alighter, you’ll have 30 days of paid vacation and the option to exchange public holiday days for other days off. We also offer market-leading insurance programs for all our employees, together with an annual wellness allowance of €500 (5000 SEK).
At our HQ in Stockholm, we also have weekly activities like lunch runs and Thursday yoga sessions.
-
While we take our role in driving the green transition seriously, we know how to have fun. We believe that a positive team spirit enhances our collective impact. Some examples of planned activities are Friday breakfast every second week, Guest lecturers with dinner, team dinners, and sports activities. But there are also a lot of spontaneous activities driven by our employees!
Each quarter we also have "Alight Next," our company-wide meetup, a two-day strategy day with workshops, lectures, and team building in which we focus on the next quarter. We also always have some fun activities planned during those meetup days, examples being ski trips, sailing, dinners, and parties
-
We’re committed to helping you grow and embrace new areas of responsibility, whether vertically or horizontally.
It’s common for our team members to be promoted to leadership roles or transition into entirely new domains. We have structured career coaching, internal training programs, performance reviews, and goal-setting frameworks to help you develop your career.
